Current Exhibitions at The Rockwell Museum

 Antique Toy Collection

Travel back through time to see children’s vintage toys and memorabilia from the Victorian Era, as well as toys from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. The toys on display are partially drawn from the Rockwell Toy Collection that Bob and Hertha Rockwell collected during their lifetime.  From baby dolls to cap guns to toy trains, these are toys Americans have grown up with and still love today, toys that evoke the classic holiday spirit of bygone times.

The toys are part of a special art hunt, and each toy features a few fun facts and questions that will encourage children of all ages to think about these classic toys in new ways. 

A Feeling of Humanity: Western Art from the Ken Ratner Collection

This exhibition consists of more than 65 works including paintings, works on paper, archives and ephemera by 30 artists who celebrate the art of the Western United States. 

 Harmless Hunter: Charles M. Russell’s Wildlife Art

Known as the “Cowboy Artist,” Russell painted, drew, and sculpted various Western animals throughout his long and storied career. This exhibition will feature over 40 of Russell’s wildlife works.  

On Fire: The Nancy and Alan Cameros Collection of Southwestern Pottery

This exhibit features the Nation’s premier collection of Pueblo Pottery featuring work by the most talented American Indian artists of today. The pottery from this special collaboration with the Cameros family are prominently displayed in custom casework in our Museum.

 Untouched by Chaos: Karl Bodmer and the American Wilderness

Between 1833 and 1834, Maximilian, a German nobleman and self-trained naturalist, financed an expedition up the Missouri River, through a huge swath of the American West. Karl Bodmer, a young Swiss artist, accompanied Maximilian, creating some of the earliest images of the landscape, people, flora, and fauna of the trans-Mississippi West. 

Lock, Stock & Barrel

This selection of historic long arms and handguns is from the Robert F. “Bobby” Rockwell, III collection. From the American Revolution to the Hollywood cowboy, these historic firearms help tell the story of America and explores two and a half centuries of innovation in technology.
