Second place winner, Ron Stiles of Painted Post, also used his lucky number, 711, in his guess of 6,711 yards. Kim Boulden, of Syracuse came in third place with her guess of 6,027 yards. Ron and Kim have each won a $25 gift card to The Museum Store, and a One-Year Individual Membership to The Rockwell.
Thank you to everyone who came in to submit their estimate – we received over 100 entries with answers ranging from 12 yards to 1.8 million yards. Many entries were even covered in diagrams and math work. In the end, the tried and true lucky-number-strategy was the way to go!
The wonderful wooly work of art that started the whole contest was created by 30 community knitters and coordinated by Jean Gray of Wooly Minded (91 E. Market Street). Each fiber artist created unique knitted panels to be a part of this very large, very eclectic scarf, totaling 42-feet long and 15-inches wide. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fabulous project!
Didn’t get a chance to see this masterpiece? The massive scarf will remain on display in the window of The Museum Store through February. While you’re here, be sure to check out Artemus’ stylish winter hat, also created in a group effort by our friends at Wooly Minded! Artemus will keep his hat as long as it’s cold enough outside to warrant it… so, seemingly forever.
If you have a great picture of Artemus, we’d love to see it! Use hashtag #RockwellMuseum so we’ll be sure to find it.
Stay warm, and thanks again to everyone who participated in this fun community contest!
