Author Louise A. Blum will read from two previously-published essays, exploring the intersection of fact and fiction and the subjective nature of memory. The first essay, “Killing My Father’s Cat,” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and selected for inclusion in Best American Essays. The second, “It’s What Wives Do,” appeared in 13th Moon. While these essays have been previously published, neither has had a reading in the Twin Tiers area. A question and answer period will follow each reading.

Louise A. Blum is the author of two previous books. Her memoir, You’re Not From Around Here, Are You? A Lesbian in Small Town America (University of Wisconsin Press), was nominated for the Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award and designated a Stonewall Honor Book in Non-Fiction by the American Library Association. Her first novel, Amnesty (Alyson Publications), was a Lambda Literary Award finalist for Best Lesbian Fiction. She is a MacDowell Fellow and received her MFA from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. She is currently working on a novel exploring the themes of loss and resurrection.

Louise A. Blum currently lives in Corning, NY with her wife, Connie Sullivan-Blum, the executive director of the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes. Her daughter Zoe is a recent college graduate, and a close reader and astute critic of everything her mother writes.
