In continuation of The Rockwell’s 2020 theme, Advancing Women, the Museum is pleased to partner with Card Carrying Books & Gifts to present Believe Me: A Live Discussion with Jaclyn Friedman, Bonnie Clairmont and Sarah Deer. Moderated by The Rockwell, this panel will discuss the pivotal work, Believe Me: How Trusting Women Can Change the World. The book brings together two dozen writers to make a case for the revolutionary power of a simple idea: That we should structure our society as if women’s lived experiences and insights were just as important and reliable as men’s. The panel discussion will be followed by Q&A with the audience.
Jaclyn Friedman is the Co-editor of Believe Me: How Trusting Women Can Change the World and a popular speaker, opinion writer and the author of three books. Friedman is also the host of “Unscrewed,” named a Best Sex Podcast by both Marie Claire and Esquire.
Bonnie Clairmont (HoChunk), citizen of the HoChunk Nation of Wisconsin, resides in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she is employed with the Tribal Law and Policy Institute as the victim advocacy program specialist, providing training and technical assistance to tribal communities to better enable them to respond to violence against Native women. Bonnie has worked for more than thirty years as an advocate for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and sexual harassment, as well as for children exposed to violence.
Sarah Deer (MVSKOKE) is a professor at the University of Kansas. Deer is a 2014 MacArthur Fellow, and she has received recognition from the US Department of Justice and the American Bar Association for her work to end violence against Native women.
