Building on a tradition of collaboration, The Rockwell Museum and Corning Museum of Glass are pleased to once again team up to host a contemporary artist in Corning. This year we welcome multidisciplinary artist Elaine K. Ng, who will be creating a site-specific installation at The Rockwell as part of the Antigravity Project. This annual commission is coupled with a week-long guest appearance in the Amphitheater Hot Shop where she’ll work collaboratively with the gaffers to realize her designs in glass.
Members of both The Corning Museum of Glass and The Rockwell Museum are invited to this exclusive opportunity to hear from Elaine about her work and her experience in the Hot Shop. The hour will include a casual panel discussion with the artist and the lead gaffer, plus ample time for members to meet the artist and ask questions.
Ng will create a site-specific installation in The Rockwell’s rotunda entryway as a response to the architecture of that historic building. Ng’s Antigravity Project will be on view through February of 2021. Corning Museum of Glass members that attend the event are invited to visit The Rockwell for free that day to see Ng’s unique installation.
Elaine K. Ng is an artist whose work explores the physical and psychological structures of site. Her practice includes material investigations and explorations of pattern, as well as writing and research to examine the various aspects that contribute to our collective knowledge of place. She holds a BA in music and pre-veterinary medicine from the University of California, Davis, an MBA and MA in nonprofit management from Southern Methodist University, and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She exhibits and lectures internationally and has been a Visiting Professor at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) University and a Visiting Artist at Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA). In 2017-18 she was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Fellowship for research in Taiwan.
