Please join us in celebrating the exhibition opening for Harmless Hunter: Charles M. Russell’s Wildlife Art. Known as the “Cowboy Artist,” Russell nevertheless painted, drew, and sculpted various western animals, among them the grizzly bear, the deer, and the buffalo, throughout his long and storied career. Russell’s works also address more problematic environmental themes like the rapid changes wrought by the onset of settlement, economic development, and near decimation of wild game in the American West. This exhibition will feature over 40 works of art by Charles M. Russell.
The evening will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. when guests will have the opportunity to hear from Adam Harris, Petersen Curator of Art and Research at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.
Adam Duncan Harris has been 
the Curator of Art at the National Museum of Wildlife Art since 2000. Harris received a Bachelor’s degree from Brown University before continuing on to the University of Wyoming for a Master’s degree in American Studies. He finished his academic studies at the University of Minnesota, where he received a PhD in Art History. Harris is the author of Wildlife in American Art: Masterworks from the National Museum of Wildlife Art and editor of the award-winning Bob Kuhn: Drawing on Instinct, both published by the University of Oklahoma Press. Harris recently curated a touring exhibit in conjunction with the Smithsonian American Art Museum, entitled George Catlin’s American Buffalo, and assisted with exhibition, Harmless Hunter: Charles Russell’s Wildlife Art.

Harmless Hunter: Charles M. Russell’s Wildlife Art is organized by the National Museum of Wildlife Art in collaboration with the Charles M. Russell Center, University of Oklahoma, and is guest curated by B. Byron Price, Director of the Charles M. Russell Center and University of Oklahoma Press.
