Each month, join us at The Rockwell for FunDay Sunday – a series of completely free family activities designed to encourage creativity, self-expression, and an interest in art an early age. Visitors of all ages are invited to The Rockwell Museum for an afternoon of hands-on creativity. No registration required.
This month, we celebrate the craft of basket-making as we invite you to weave some meaningful family fun into your day! Native people of the New England area are known for their beautifully woven and decorated woodsplint baskets, an art dating back to the mid-1600s. They made baskets out of wood from brown and black ash, and oak trees. Baskets were used for all kinds of food and household storage. They were also finely decorated with symbols from their tribe and were used as a means of communication. Make your basket one of a kind by interlacing colorful strips of paper, fabric, and pipe cleaners, then decorate with embellishments and Native American-style symbols.
Drop in any time between noon and 3:00 p.m. to participate in this fun family art activity!
