Meet the Curator: An Evening with Byron Price
The Nation’s Leading Expert on the Art of Charles M. Russell
Depictions of wild animals comprise roughly a quarter of Charles M. Russell’s total production of paintings, drawings and sculpture. Russell called himself a “harmless hunter,” who, while enjoying the camaraderie of the chase and the hunting camp, could not bring himself to slay animals for sport or food. Byron Price, Director of the Charles M. Russell Center at the University of Oklahoma and Director of the University of Oklahoma Press, will look at Russell’s wildlife work as a reflection of the artist’s world view and the values he embraced.
Now on view at The Rockwell, Harmless Hunter: Charles M. Russell’s Wildlife Art is organized by the National Museum of Wildlife Art in collaboration with the Charles M. Russell Center, University of Oklahoma.
