David Higgins, Monkey in Oregon, oil on panel. In 2013, Corning Community College Professor of Art, David Higgins, embarked on a journey across the Northern Plains and Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean following the historical markers along the Lewis and Clark expedition route.

His traveling companion on his journey was an old toy monkey that he used as a means of establishing scale with the reference photos taken on the trip. He created artwork about his experiences and his quirky observations of roadside America – fast food, tanker trucks, wind farms, and nutty billboards as well as the lush foothills and river valleys.

Higgins will share his experience through a visual and narrative presentation that will engage the audience in his great adventure.
