Rockwell Ambassadors and their guests are invited to join The Rockwell and River Friends for a fun and scenic six-mile Chemung River paddle from Bottcher’s Landing Boat Launch (off Country Route 10, also known as South Corning Road) in Big Flats to Fitch’s Bridge (off Country Route 225, also known as Hendy Hollow Road) in Big Flats. Participants will learn about area wildlife, water safety, paddling tips, local history, and some urban legends about the life and lore of the 45-mile Chemung River. The trip will conclude with a cookout and craft beer tasting. Guide service, kayaks, paddles and life vests will be provided by Southern Tier Kayak Tours.
Participants will meet at Bottcher’s Landing in Big Flats at 9:30 a.m. Following a brief introduction, the group will launch on the water by 10 a.m. The 3-hour paddle will end with a cookout and a beer tasting.
We recommend bringing the following items for a comfortable trip:
>> Water shoes or hard soled sneakers
>> Bottle of water
>> Snack
>> Hat with a brim
>> Sunblock
>> Sunglasses with strap
>> Plastic bag to keep personal belongings dry
