Flathead artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (b. 1940) was born at St. Ignatius, a Flathead Indian Reservation. She earned a Master of Arts from the University of New Mexico in 1980 and received the Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art in 1999. Internationally renowned, Quick-To-See Smith’s work addresses environmental and identity issues. Her abstract and expressive paintings incorporate collage and text. She has worked as an advocate for Native issues and contemporary Native American artists throughout her career. She resides in Corrales, New Mexico.
