Judith A. Lowry

Judith A. Lowry was born in Washington, D.C. and spent most of her childhood traveling around the world with her family, living in Germany, Australia, Japan, and many states in the U.S. The experience of growing up in a mixed race family against the backdrop of so many cultural settings provided Lowry with a unique world view from which she draws much of her artistic inspiration. Beginning her career as a photographer-a hobby she still enjoys today-Lowry also attended university while raising her three children. Later in her career, she transitioned to painting, which occupies most of her creative time today. Lowry’s large-scale acrylic images are inspired by the work of the Italian primitives of the Early Renaissance. Lowry’s artistic perspective, impacted by her exposure to both Native American and European cultures, allows her to depict unique stories within her works.
