Favoritism

In the spirit of such recognized art movements as Impressionism and Modernism, The Rockwell Museum introduces Favoritism. 

The newly-coined movement features staff favorites from the permanent collection, including oil paintings, etchings, photography and more, giving the opportunity to showcase unsung treasures from the diverse collection.

All members of the Rockwell staff, regardless of department, were invited to explore artworks in storage and select their favorite, spanning many decades and mediums. Each artwork is accompanied by a text panel from the staff member who chose it, explaining why they chose it and how it makes them feel.

This exhibition also presents an opportunity to feature more works of art in our building that would otherwise be in storage. Museums often search for ways to place more artwork on view within their buildings, as the national average of objects on view for American institutions is typically just 2% of their entire collection. Although limited by gallery wall space in our historic building, the Rockwell is well above this average, presenting more than 10% of our collection to the public.
