9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Each week of the holiday season, find a different artisan spotlight in The Rockwell Museum Store!
Founded by Rex Maruca 25 years ago, Maruca Design is a small, intimate studio nestled in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado. Every bag is still handcut and sewn kindly in small production runs, right here at home.

The fiber of our philosophy
Maruca Design embraces the principles of the Arts & Crafts Movement in America (1860-1910), a movement that invigorated and emphasized the value placed on traditional and decorative craftsmanship using simple forms. The movement stood in opposition to industrial manufacturing and sought to promote the moral, social and economic health of the nation.
We, at Maruca, believe that creating small production runs of our bags within a cottage industry, creates a consciousness that humanizes our work and makes for a more “harmonious society”. The result is that we can tout a product that is unique, well made and moves from heart to hand. As an American-based company, we seek to balance resourcefulness and creativity.
Line inspiration
Though we are proud to tout that we are American made, we are highly inspired by global crafts. We thank Indonesia and India for their glorious Ikats, Eastern Europe for floral work and Africa for their bouncing, bold patterns. Ultimately, we thank Mother Nature…each line consistently has an organic vibe, woody weaves with brilliant tones.
Our shapes
Our bags are designed for gals of all ages and preferences…After 25 years of working with women and their relationship issues with their handbags, (and carrying bags ourselves), we have learned to listen! Not driven by trend, heeding the advice from our followers and endless reconnaissance, our funk-tional shapes are designed to actually work in your life.
Giving back
With all of your support, we in turn are able to contribute to multiple humanitarian causes! To name a few… Boulder Valley Women’s Health, I have a Dream, Children’s Diabetes Foundation, Boulder County Aids Project, Freedom Service Dogs, Community Food Share, and Attention Homes.
The Rockwell Museum Store is open daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission fee to shop. Closed Thanksgiving Day, December 24, December 25, and January 1.
