In December, Kirsty Buchanan, curator of collections and exhibitions, will open up a discussion on The Evolution of the Landscape: Albert Bierstadt, Arthur Dove, Richard Parrish.

In this edition of Art History Club, we’ll be looking at the American Landscape Tradition. Beginning with the Hudson River School, America’s first art movement, we will explore how the land has inspired artists for centuries. Shifting perspectives and vantage points influence how we engage with the surrounding world. Contemporary artists have moved beyond traditional media like oil paint and watercolor to living materials and even sculpting the land itself.

    About Art History Club

Have you ever wished you could join a book club, but for your favorite works of art? Join us this winter for our new Members-only series! Each month we’ll focus on recent acquisitions into The Rockwell collection while discussing key movements of American art history. The series will culminate in a Museum meet-up for participants. Join us for the sessions that fit your schedule, or we’d love to see you at all of them!

This event will be hosted via Zoom. A Zoom link will be included in your confirmation email and will include simple instructions on how to join with your computer, mobile phone or tablet.
