11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Sunday, April 29, 2018 | 11 a.m. – noon
This is a presentation of Bare Bones Café, a community-sourced museum experience included with regular Rockwell admission. Refreshments will be available. Full schedule
Carissa Penman uses horseshoes, bits and recycled materials to create art, décor, dream catchers and wind chimes. In this demonstration-style program, Carissa will re-purpose a horse bit to create a one-of-a-kind decorative owl using hemp and suede cording, plus feathers, seeds and natural stones for embellishment.
Artist Biography
Carissa Penman grew up with a passion for horses, riding trails with her parents, dancing ballet, and playing the flute. Her time volunteering with a program called “TEAD” (The Equestrian Association for the Disabled) led her to explore equine therapy. A few years ago she started creating handmade jewelry under Creatively Carissa’s Handcrafted Boutique. In 2016, her daughter’s horse, Coral, inspired her to start using horseshoes as photo frames. From there, she further explored the medium to create art, décor, dream catchers and wind chimes from recycled horseshoes and leather gear. In December 2017, her business name changed to Dreams Recycled.
