12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Monday, May 07, 2018 | Noon – 1 p.m.
This is a presentation of Bare Bones Café, a community-sourced museum experience included with regular Rockwell admission. Refreshments will be available. Full schedule
Visitors to Bare Bones Café will have the opportunity to interact with this Bob Ross-inspired piece. An artificial tree will be covered with paper leaves, each one with words and phrases written on them. Patrons will choose a leaf to take, then write their own uplifting words on a blank leaf, which they will hang on the tree replacing the one they have taken.
About the Artist
Kristal Walker was born in Elmira, New York in 1977. Having a father who loved taking photos and a mother who avidly sewed and crocheted, it was natural that she would grow to become a tactile visual artist. While obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art, she had the opportunity to immerse herself in an array of mediums, including, of course, fibers and photography. She seeks out recycled materials, thrift store fabrics and finds, and empty picture frames that seem to have no purpose left. She feels her empathy for these abandoned or rejected materials helps bring them back to a new life. She relishes the challenge of finding haphazard items that she can weave into a new personal story of her own, absorbing the memories and lost ideas of strangers and making them her own.
Kristal has had pieces exhibited in both the Sexuality and Sanctuary shows, held in the Evelyn Peacock Gallery, ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes. She has also had an article published in GASNews Magazine. Kristal lives and works on the outskirts of Corning, continually supported and loved by her amazing husband of nearly twenty-one years and her two brilliant young daughters.
