The Rockwell Museum is proud to partner with Local Learning Network (a national network for folk art in education) and The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes to offer Culture, Community & the Classroom, an active and culturally engaging virtual showcase.

- Who are traditional artists in your community?
- Do you want to learn more about the cultural communities of your region through the arts?
- How can schools engage diverse families and cultural communities in their students’ learning, especially in the time of Covid-19?
Please join the teachers and traditional artists who have been working together to give students rich, engaging opportunities to learn from and with diverse local artists.
Over 60 educators from school districts in the Southern Tier participated in the virtual summer Culture, Community, and the Classroom workshop. Traditional art forms reflect the history, aesthetics, geography, and values of different cultures and communities and are easily incorporated across subject areas and grade levels. Faculty included eight regional folk artists, local cultural specialists, and nationally recognized faculty from Local Learning: The National Network for Folk Arts in Education. Eight educators were selected to host artists in their schools representing classical Indian dance; Native American antler and bone carving; Irish fiddle; fly fishing and tying; Mexican foodways; Afro Puerto Rican hair arts; African American storytelling and games; and Puerto Rican theater, poetry, and visual arts.
