Don’t miss the biggest KIDS ROCKWELL event of the year, held annually on the first Sunday of November. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday steeped in tradition that honors friends and family members through art, dance and festive foods. Join us for an afternoon to decorate sugar skulls, make paper flowers, try traditional foods and learn about this special Mexican holiday. Dia de los Muertos attire encouraged!
Explore traditions of Mexican culture at both The Rockwell Museum and KIDS ROCKWELL Art Lab.
Meet La Catrina, the famous traditional character made popular by Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada. La Catrina will be roaming through the galleries and workshops at both locations for photo ops. Share your photos with #RockwellMuseum. Program attendees will also receive a $5 coupon to shop for traditional Day of the Dead items in the Museum Store. Limited to one coupon per group.

Build an Ofrenda Activity: Build an ofrenda with Bev Stevens

Ofrenda Presentation: Oaxacan and Yaqui ofrenda presentation with Mercedes Piatt

Mexican Dance Performance & Workshops: Learn basic dance movements with Leonel and Lola Rosario by participating in this workshop and move your body to
traditional Mexican rhythms

Paper Flower Making: Make your own paper flowers with Gloria Peters and CareFirst
Community Ofrenda: Bring a memento or a photo of a loved one for the community ofrenda at the Art Lab and receive a sticker

Throughout the month of October, middle school Spanish students from the surrounding area visit the Museum to create decorative objects for a Dia de los Muertos student ofrenda that is on view in The Rockwell’s Student Gallery. The school tour program culminates in The Rockwell’s Annual Dia de los Muertos Family Celebration.
