With no end in sight for the partial government shutdown, Corning museums are making a special offer to impacted government workers. Through the end of the shutdown, both The Corning Museum of Glass and The Rockwell Museum will offer free admission for each federal employee, plus one adult guest – simply show government ID at the admissions desks during check-in.
In 2019, The Rockwell’s exhibitions and events unite through the theme of Questioning Identity – including the hands-on activities at KIDS ROCKWELL Art Lab. Through creative play and art projects, explore what makes people unique! Help build our Cardboard City and populate it with puppet people. Find inspiration from artist Marie Watt’s blanket tower to make your own collage blanket and story. Choose your favorite patterns to design your own version of Haudenosaunee regalia, and draw BIG portraits of your family and friends.
Antigravity: a space for contemporary perspectives
Through the Thread by Crystal Gregory
The Rockwell introduces an inaugural new exhibition series: Antigravity! Each year, the museum will commission one emerging artist to create a site-specific installation for The Rockwell’s rotunda entryway. The inaugural installation will feature the work of sculptor and fiber artist Crystal Gregory – on view only through February 17, 2019.
Art About the American Experience
The Rockwell Museum tells the story of the American experience through fine art. Housed within the Old City Hall building of Corning, this diverse collection includes a mix of nineteenth-century American paintings, historic bronzes, and Native American artifacts as well as twentieth-century modernists, illustration art, contemporary photography, and historic firearms. Featured galleries represent the works of Andy Warhol, the Taos Society of Artists, and masterworks of Remington and Russell.
