School Tours: K – 12, College & BeyondOur creative educational tours are aligned with New York State Learning Standards and inspire the interest of students in core subjects including Language Arts, Social Studies, and U.S. History. We are an extension of the classroom – a laboratory that emphasizes critical thinking skills, and visual and analytical strategies. Students of all ages and abilities come to the Museum to learn about our nation’s growth and the blending of cultures that makes American society so special.
The Alley Art Project is a result of a special collaboration between The Rockwell Museum and the High School Learning Center of the Corning-Painted Post Area School District. Each year, students create individual pieces that work as elements of a larger mural design to be painted in the Corning community. The Alley Art Project supports students in learning about art, design, and the research associated with the process of art making – all the while cultivating a sense of pride in the community.
Artist in Residence: The Great Circle Program Our educators are at the forefront of art enrichment in common core learning standards. We work with surrounding districts that face economic hardships related to adequate funding for arts in education instruction by providing a visiting artist to the classroom for an extended period of time. We developed a custom program that includes a teaching artist and a visit to the Museum, all the while supporting the goals set forth by the classroom teacher. This program was initiated because of the generosity of museum patrons.
In 2002, The Rockwell established a partnership with the High School Learning Center, the alternative high school within the Corning-Painted Post Area School District. Throughout the year, students create art and writing projects that explore issues concerning identity, affording them opportunities to gain greater self-awareness. In addition, the program allows students to explore the Museum collection in-depth and engages them in tours and exhibits of artistic works.
The Rockwell Teen Council aims to empower teens as agents of change and amplify youth voices within the institution. Teens will have the opportunity to interpret art, plan a teen night event and connect with peers in a positive and inspiring environment. All high school students in the region are invited to join the Rockwell Teen Council.
The Rockwell Museum is collaborating with several area partners to offer the second phase of the educational Garden of Fire project to regional children this summer. The program, which was conceived collaboratively by local organizations, focuses on building capacity, depth and the integration of art and science for programs serving youth in Steuben County.
Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead The Rockwell Museum celebrates Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead annually, connecting the arts to honoring and remembering loved ones.
