CPP-High School IB Visual Arts Student Exhibit

In collaboration with the Corning-Painted Post High School, The Rockwell Museum is proud to present special exhibit of five students of the International Baccalaureate Visual Arts Diploma Programme. Under the direction of art teachers Lisa Rossi-Sullivan and Shari Holland, these students have completed the program and curated their very own student showcase. Their artwork will be on view through September 15, 2015 in The Rockwell’s Student Gallery.

Jenna Morgan, Brooke Chamberlin and Karlee Burdick participated in the two-year program; Lily Quinones and Claire Tepesch participated in the one-year program.

As part of the program, students visited museums including The Rockwell, to study and draw inspiration from the collections for their own works of art. In addition to creating the art, students curated and installed this exhibit, giving them a broader sense of the many facets of the professional art world.

Claire Tepesch’s ceramic tryptic, Perseverance, was inspired by Tammy Garcia’s Hunter’s Bounty, pictured right.	Tammy Garcia’s Hunter’s Bounty is on display on the first floor landing of The Rockwell Museum.

 

The IB Diploma Programme course encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. It is a thought-provoking course in which students develop analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency and gaining confidence as art-makers.

The Rockwell is pleased to host this exhibit and support local students who want to go on to study visual arts in higher education as well as for those who are seeking lifelong enrichment through visual arts.
