The Rockwell believes in advancing the desire of our founding collectors, Bob and Hertha Rockwell, to make the art collection accessible to as many people as possible. We build community through partnerships and collaboration. That’s why we’re pleased to once again partner with Corning Museum of Glass for the 2017-2018 year to offer the Meet Me at the Museum program, a collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association.
The monthly series is designed for persons with dementia and their care partners. The Museums will co -host the monthly events, sharing program themes on a bi-monthly basis. The programs are held on the second Monday of each month from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at each museum, alternating monthly. Specific details each month will be posted on the museum’s calendar.
The program year kicks off on Monday, September 11th at The Rockwell from 1:30 – 3:00 PM and will feature celebrated African American Artist, Elizabeth Catlett’s sculpture entitled Mother and Child, a new museum acquisition. The theme of mother and child in art and personal experience will be explored. The discussion will then lead to a collaborative poetry activity inspired by the group’s collective observations and musings. The gallery session will conclude with light refreshments in the Museum’s Education Center.
This program is free, and pre-registration for the Meet Me at the Museum programs is strongly encouraged. Please contact the Alzheimer’s Association to register by calling 800.272.3900.
