The Rockwell Museum is focused on providing meaningful learning opportunities for students and teachers. Our creative educational programs are aligned with New York State Learning Standards and inspire the interest of students in core subjects.
A close partnership with regional public school districts has enabled our museum to become an extension of the classroom-a laboratory that emphasizes critical thinking skills, and visual and analytical strategies. Students of all ages and abilities come to The Rockwell to learn about our nation’s growth and the blending of cultures that makes American society so special.
Explore our permanent collection or a special exhibition on a guided group tour led by one of our friendly and experienced Museum Docents, or on your own with a self-guided group tour. Adult group tours last about 1 hour, and are designated for groups with at least 10 people. Our docents can tailor the tour to meet the interests and needs of your group. Docent-led group tours are available every day by advance registration only, Tuesday through Sunday. Submit your tour request today and a Rockwell Museum representative will contact you shortly to confirm your exciting visit.
Our museum is housed in Old City Hall and has been at the heart of Corning for over 120 years. As you could imagine, there are some wonderful, unique details to explore in our home.
Investigate some of the special architectural features of the building with a self-guided tour. This tour is available to pick up at the Museum Admission Desk, or download the architecture tour here (PDF).
We have a special program designed for persons with dementia and their care partners. The focus includes viewing and discussing artwork in the galleries. Specially trained docents will highlight pieces in the Museum’s collection through a colorful presentation to stimulate conversation and reminiscence.
Meet Me at the Museum tours are offered in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, Rochester & Finger Lakes Region. Tours are offered each month from February through May and from September through December. Registration for Meet Me at the Museum is required. All museum entrances are wheelchair accessible. Public galleries are accessible and can be reached by elevator. However, not all doors are on power assist. There are wheelchair-accessible restrooms on the mezzanine level.
Manual wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis; just ask any Museum staff person for assistance. The Rockwell also welcomes your personal walkers, wheelchairs, and scooters.
The Museum entrance is accessible for all visitors and designated parking is available for vehicles displaying the appropriate disability permits. This parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Free Parking is located directly behind the museum.
A free shuttle bus runs continuously from the Welcome Center to the Museum to The Corning Museum of Glass, to downtown Corning, where you’ll find Historic Market Street shops and restaurants.
